The App Wizard is started the first time you log into the Purple DS Manager and when you create new apps. The App-Wizard allows you to create new apps in a few steps. A basic app is created - a framework that you can then customize in many different ways. The App-Wizard can be called up again at any time by clicking on the "New" button in the Apps section.
In the first step you enter a name for your app and choose or upload an app icon. The app icon must be 1024x1024 pixels in size, as it is also used for the android splash screen. The icon can be customized later at any time.
In the second step you choose for which devices your app should be built. By default, the app is built for phones and tablets.
In the third step you define what kind of app you want to build. The app types differ on the one hand according to the content - e.g. whether you want to purge articles or complete issues - and on the other hand according to the design options.
Native Feed & Newsstand
The app has a newsfeed where articles are displayed and also has a newsstand where issue-based content can be published. Feed and Kiosk consist of ready-made Purple DS elements but can be customized with your own text, colors and logos.
HTML Feed & Newsstand
The app has a newsfeed where articles are displayed and also has a newsstand where issue-based content can be published. Feed and kiosk are HTML based and can be designed freely.
Newsstand / Library
Your app has a newsstand or library with several different issues. You manage the issues in the Purple DS Manager. A newsstand app consists of ready-made Purple DS elements and can be customized with your own text, colors and logos.
The home screen of your app is your content. You only offer one issue. You can manage and update the content via the Purple DS Manager.
A Single Issue App cannot be converted to a Newsstand or Newsfeed App afterwards.
In a newsstand app you can activate the "Newsfeed" feature later. If a newsfeed is available, the app will always start in the newsfeed before you can switch to the kiosk.
You can get a pure newsfeed app by first building an app with feed and newsstand and then removing the entry for the newsstand from the app menu.
After clicking the Finish button, the wizard builds your app. Once this is completed, the overview of your new app will be displayed. This first app is initially a preview app and cannot yet be published in an App Store. You can install it to your device by scanning the QR code or using the App Link option.
An app created with the wizard contains demo content. You can delete this content from the app and add your own content in the "Content" menu (see Editing publications).
